A spar.
Ventus whipped his key blade back and forth in the woods. He was terrible with balance and he almost threw himself to the ground when he swing too hard. The blond knew, for a fact, that his combat ability would improve if he had someone to spar with! But, considering he only knew servants, and no one else in town, he couldn't exactly walk up to people he didn't know and ask if they wanted to spar so he could practice - especially when he was practicing because he was a rebel at heart. It was complicated: he wanted to be stronger but had nowhere to start. His father was training him, but... may he rest in peace, Ventus suddenly stopped swinging and lowered his head. The grip on his blade tightened; he looked up, he saw his target, and lunged. He aimed for a tree because that would give off some form of feedback, or recoil, if he smacked it.
He lunged with impressive speed and slashed.
All that was left was a small scratch on the bark; one wouldn't even be able to tell that it was made by a sword: it was pitiful - absolutely pitiful. Ventus sighed and dropped to his knees. He was making no progress, in fact; it felt as though he was becoming worse, or he was becoming rusty. Rusty from a lack of practice, which is what he was doing every day. "Damnit!" He angrily whispered.

Laughter came from the tree. Not just any sort of light-hearted laughter either. It border-lined a cruel cackle and noble woman's chuckle. "Looks like you need more practice, no?"
Rosso sat on higher resting branch with her legs crossed and one foot rocking back and forth casually. "Strange that one such as yourself, a weakling that is, would come into such wealth. Must've been a bit of luck I'd say," she coo'd with a smirk on her face.
The woman lept from the branch and eyed the boy for a moment. He was kind of scrawny and didn't seem like warrior material. No matter, boys could always be trained to be men, right? Rosso strolled over to the trunk of the tree and ran her finger along the small indention Ventus had left. "Heh, you lack quite a lot of strength indeed, Ventus," she said addressing him by name. She only new it from the small card she'd been given a few hours before with his name and whereabouts. The army was expanding and needing new recruits. This meant all of those with a little money to their name, including this boy. "I don't think you'd stand a chance against anyone in a real fight, and in times like these it's important to be able to defend yourself, no? And so, I have a proposition for you if you're willing to listen to it," she purred with a pleasant smile.

The blond's eyes went wide and his heart beat fast. Who was she? How did she know his name? How did he know his wealth? Why did she dress like she murdered small children? Why did she talk as if he was a small child? Questions sprang into his head and he took a few steps back. He clutched on to his shaking keyblade, which seemed to rattle in effect.
He gulped very seriously and stayed quiet for a moment, he was about to lose it if she kept looking at him like that. She was scary -- and scaring the fuck out of Ventus, that was for sure. He held his blade and put it to his side, as was his battle stance. When he opened his mouth, all his questions came pouring out: "Who are you? How do you know who I am? What proposal are you talking about?" He felt seriously uncomfortable about this. He felt as if he would lose his life if he did not do what this women wanted. Why couldn't she? There were no guards around, no patrols; she did not even know to whom she was allegiance to, or if she held any allegiance further than herself... All he did know was that he squeezed the handle of his blade and was ready to counterattack or parry.

Rosso laughed again. Chaos must have been desperate if he was signing children like this up for his army! The boy couldn't even get into a correct fighting stance, not to mention he was a coward.
"First off, I already told you my name. I am Rosso. I'm currently working as a Recruiter for my Lord Chaos. Secondly, I was given your name," she said grinning wickedly. "If you think Lord Chaos doesn't know the names of all within his kingdom then you are tragically mistaken. Lastly I make you this proposal: Join Chaos' forces and become stronger or wait til another Recruiter comes for you that isn't so nice like me."

Work for Chaos?
Become stronger?
He stopped and thought of it. If he worked for Chaos -- which he detested -- he could become stronger. But, he'd have to work for Chaos and that was something he wasn't completely sure he what he wanted to do, but he couldn't make the women suspicious of him.
"I'm not sure I want to enlist in any army, Miss Rosso. I'm just practicing because I have little to do, and some self-defense would be nice."

"I understand," she said with a shrug as she examined her claws. "However....my superiors wouldn't like it if I returned EMPTY HANDED," she snapped as she lunged for Ventus in an attempt to grab him by his throat. Sure the kid probably wouldn't put up a fight and would be killed easily, but one could say she was doing the world a favor by ridding it of another weakling. Besides, it would be fun to take back his bloody corpse to the commander.

Ventus was fine one moment and then - he did not know what happened but oxygen suddenly was cut off. A small meep fell from his throat as he couldn't breath. He held up his arm and created a quick current of wind at Rosso's face. It wasn't much but perhaps it could do... something.

The gust of wind surprised her and caused her to release her grip on the boys throat. She regained her balance and eyed Ventus with intrigue. "Ah, I see you know a thing or two about magic. Wonderful. Perhaps you do have a use," she said with a wicked smirk.
She paced around him and unhooked the small contraption that hung on her back. She pressed the latch and the two crimson blades ejected, a loud metallic sound resonated in the forest. "I'll give you one last chance, boy. You're either with Lord Chaos or against him," she said pleasantly. She new his answer, but at least now she could say she really tried to recruit him.

Ventus needed to think of something quick. It was either join her or be killed; there had to be a third choice - if only he could think!
Ventus backed away from her weapon and stuttered, "I am with Lord Chaos, m'lady, there is no question about that. I am only unfit to be a warrior, not to mention; I do own land that I must look over. Chaos has asked most farms around here for free food rations and I give, and support, him. I, however, cannot be a warrior now."
Please work. Please work. Please work. Please work.

She giggled, "Have no fear, darling. We'll put someone in your place while your off playing war hero. It really is that simple. And besides....We have plans to take your farm anyway. Might as well put you to good work, too, no?"
She grinned wickedly and lifted her blade under his chin, "You see, if you don't come with me, I have the authority to slaughter you here and now." Rosso was being her most persausive. Threatening those weaker than you was a piece of cake. Surely the boy would come with her.

The dragoon scouted the area. This was one of the last few sections around that he had yet to check out. Knowing your surroundings was half the battle when it came to hiding. Though he hadn't been in this neck of the woods before his was still aware of the farmland on its outskirts. It had been said around the town that a young man owned it. Inherited it from his sister or aunt...er something.
Kain was nearing a clearing when he heard a voice. Female.
"....Lord Chaos or...."
That was all he needed to hear. He lept up into the canopy and landed quietly onto a thicker branch. Quickly he hopped through the limbs, the voices grew louder. He was getting closer.
Finally he rested and gazed downward to see if he could spot the speaker.
"...I, however, cannot be a warrior, now." Male.
He finally caught sight of the two and jumped to lower hanging branches that would keep him just out of sight. Kain listened intently wondering what the two were discussing.

Ventus seemed to freeze in place. He took several steps back and his breathing became ragged. "You can't do that! My family has always been supporters of Chaos and we've served him well!" It was true, his aunt and her parents and whatnot loved Chaos without question. "You can't take advantage of weak people who have always served you! Why don't you take strong people! Or people who are against you! I have been supply you with food for years!"
He backed away, afraid; "Where's your honour? Those who help you should be spared from death -- I probably fed many people who were going to starve otherwise, for Lord Chaos!"

She laughed, "Ah, I see, so you think you are exempt just because you 'feed the hungry'. If Lord Chaos gave a damn about the starving people in his country he would have helped them long ago. Our policy is this: The strong survive. So you should this as a favor being done to you. Be recruited and we can make you stronger. Stronger to the point that you won't have to fear death." She withdrew her blade from his face and trailed a finger down the crimson blade. "But, if you want it your way.....DIE!" Rosso lept at Ventus slashing through the air at him with great force.

Seemed to be a disagreement about something to do with joining Chaos. Poor kid and, damn, that woman was just plain vicious!
Knowing something needed to be done before the kid lost his head, the dragoon took hold of his spear and lept into the air. He rose high into the air before falling. He aimed between them hoping to knock Rosso's blade away.

With great wind, Ventus threw himself back. In a form of a backflip, he saw Kain in the sky but did not even care to think of what that object was. His backflip landed perfectly but his back suddenly smacked up against a tree -- he was going to die.
