The clang of metal rang out through the woods as a spear made contact with her double blade. "What!?" She lept back and glared at whoever had dared to keep her from killing this boy.
How infuriating! Then again, this man's arrival had made things even more interesting. Rosso sneered, "Get out of my way!" She dashed at the man aiming to strike at his middle.

Kain swiftly brought up the spear's handle to knock the other's blade away and avoided being gutted. While their weapons were locked for a brief moment Kain glanced over his shoulder at the boy to make sure he was alright. He seemed fine. The dragoon pushed back and quickly took to the skies before the woman had time to react.
He rose to high, but not high enough to cause him to take very long to drop down. Once gravity took over again he began his descent, aiming for her head.

The force of the clash between their weapons stung in her hands. This man was not to be taken lightly. The man jumped again, only proving to her of his either current or former occupation. She began looking up to the skies for her opponent. Rosso heard some crashing through the tree tops and a split second before he landed she jumped out of the way.
"I see you're a dragoon," she said with a malicious chuckle. "It's been a while since I've seen one of your specialties." Rosso clutched the handle of her weapon and stretched out her free hand's palm. A red energy glowed from it. She smirked and vanished in thin air only to appear behind the dragoon seconds later. She slashed at him with her free hand, ready to block a counter attack with her blade if need be.

Before Kain could even turn to look for the woman he received the slash across his back. The dragoon was thrown forward onto his knees. He groaned and attempted to get back onto his feet. He was dazed and the sudden blood loss wasn't doing him any favors either.
The dragoon gripped his spear tightly and grit his teeth. Kain wasn't going to lose to her. He bent his knees ever so slightly and sprang into the air again. The height wasn't as great, but it made for a quick attack as he plummeted to the ground again at the woman in red.

Ventus was lost in thought -- to strike or not to strike? He was nothing in comparrison to Rosso the Crimson or the Dragoon, Kain Highwind. He was scraps while they were eight course meals; he was a string while they were curtains; he was a drop while they were oceans: he was nothing compared to them! He wanted to help, he wanted to help the dragoon, but what the hell could he do? If he went in, he'd get in the way and endanger them both... but if he did nothing, he didn't know who would win. And he wasn't ready to take random sorts of risks. He relaxed himself and swirled white winds in his hand; this would help, he knew it. This would help.
He flicked his hand up as a small white ball, a weak Cura spell, flew up and made contact with Kain.
If he couldn't help from the front row -- he'd do it from the back row!

Rosso growled at the sight of the Cura spell. Damn him!
Distracted by her anger towards the boy for aiding the dragoon she had nearly forgotten about her opponent's attack until it was almost too late. The spear made contact with her left bicep as she attempted to jump back. Rosso howled with anger and pain. The wound was severe and she knew it. Blood flowed freely down her arm staining her gloves and tainting her gauntlets....time for retreat. Despite her pride, she knew when to quit. Especially if it was going to cost her her life. It was something Rosso had come to figure out during the war, and it was certainly something she was going to honor now.
Clutching her arm and snapped at the two of them, "This isn't the last time we'll meet! I'll have your head, dragoon. And as for you, Ventus, pray I never see your face." Rosso cackled and leaped off into the trees and out of sight.
Back to the castle.
((Exit stage right. I didn't put up much of a fight since Golby's all alone and I feel bad for him. >w>; ))

Kain was felt the calm relief of the Cura spell take effect and allowed him to make his attack more powerful. The blade of his spear made contact with the woman's shoulder. Hit.
Ready for a counter, the dragoon took a defensive stance once his opponent had jumped back. When she turned and ran he scoffed with unamusement. "Coward..." Kain relaxed seeing that they weren't in danger any longer and glanced behind himself at the boy...Ventus was it?
"Are you alright?" The dragoon asked with his usual calm, serious tone.

Ventus seemed uneasy, but he took a step forward. "I'm alright... now; I'll probably be dead in a week." He murmured. He did not know who Rosso the Crimson was, but she seemed high ranking enough to be able to tear him to shreds and get away with it, rather easily as well. The blond huffed and turned to the Dragoon.
"S-Sorry, I guess I should say thank you... You, saved my life." He smiled and gave a respectful nod, "Thank you. I'm Ventus, I own land in Chaos' district but I'm less-than-likely to fight for him, or do anything for him, really." He gave a light chuckle, trying to up the mood.

Kain shrugged. What was he suppose to do? Stand back and watch the kid get mauled? "My name's Kain Highwind," he stated bluntly. At least he wasn't hurt. If he had been, well, he'd most likely be very screwed since Kain knew hardly any magic whatsoever.
"Most people wouldn't want to fight for Chaos...but they do anyway. For the sake of their lives that is," he replied. "You're either really brave or really stupid, kid." Kain smirked and threw his spear over his shoulder.

"I guess I'm pretty stupid then," He chuckled. "Yeah, most of us don't even want him... but he's got magic and strength like no other, that's for sure." He rubbed his shoulder, "Well, Kain Highwind, least I could do is give you something to eat, and drink, and stuff. I got a manor close by; it's far enough from the capital, if you're avoiding that."
Ventus somewhat read the non-existent subtext. A dragoon who slashes against a Chaos general (or something) would probably be against Chaos. The thought of the dark blue clashing on red still echoed in his mind, "How about it? Come over and I'll freshen you up -- least I could do, right?"

The dragoon thought for a minute...should he go? It couldn't hurt, right? Ventus had said he wasn't for Chaos, but then again, who could you trust in this day and age. The boy seemed pretty harmless, though.
Kain sighed softly to himself and nodded. "Alright...thank you," he replied mentally kicking himself for not leaving. He shouldn't be getting involved with people.

Ventus grinned, "Awesome!"
He took Kain's hand and pulled him towards his manor, in fact; he was training not too far away, so only in about less than a minute, the manor was in sight. It was large, very large, and he had men working the farm right in front of it. It seemed different then others; it seemed different then anything in Chaos' tyrannous rule, almost as if it wasn't a part of Chaos' area at all -- though, it was. It was.
Ventus pointed to the thing, as if anyone could miss it, "That one!"

Kain's eyes widened with surprise as he was dragged off to the manor. Along the trail he could spot the roofing just above the treetops. His eyebrows raised out showing he was obviously impressed.
The dragoon whistled softly, "Quite the grand estate you have here." He took note of the workers who where busying themselves. Kain found it interesting that most of them seemed rather light-hearted, even if they were working. Ventus must be treating them well enough that it keeps their spirits high.

"Well, it was my aunt's estate, but she passed, which is kind of a good thing, since she was kind of like Chaos, but whatever." He chuckled and took him to the front door. Two servants opened it for him and the main entrance was revealed.
It was grand, it was lavished, but it was not overdone. Compared to other manors, it had a taste of simplicity, purity, to it. Ventus took pride in that. He kept it beautiful but didn't overdo it like other's did.
With a smile, Ventus gave a bow to the other blond and grinned like an idiot. "Welcome!"

Kain jaw nearly dropped at the sight. This place truly was grand. He regarded Ventus for a moment. "Thank you," he said with a nod and a small smile. Something about this kid was bringing out the brighter side of his personality. He was like a ray of sunshine in a dark room.
The dragoon strolled around for a bit taking in the sight. "Very impressive. What all do you sell?" Kain asked absentmindedly.
