Many years ago, the land was divided into many different kingdoms of varying sizes, each self-governed by various rulers. Each kingdom could trade and ally itself as it saw fit, creating a prosperous, thriving economy.
Peace reigned supreme for many years until the sudden and unexpected appearance of two beings. The first was the kind and motherly Cosmos, a divine goddess who came to the kingdom of Cornelia. Being a goddess, she was asked to live at the king's court and when the king died without an heir, she was asked to take over the country and did so, ruling justly and fairly over all.
The second being was Chaos, a dark and terrible monster who took over the kingdom of Onrac by force, using its people as pawns of war. Chaos hated Cosmos with his entire being for reasons unknown to the people. Quickly, alliances were made betwixt the other kingdoms with either Cosmos or Chaos.
Those kingdoms who willingly allied with Chaos were spared invasion and hostility, instead they were allowed to continue their previous existence as long as they paid tribute to Chaos and fought for him in his armies. Any kingdom that allied with Cosmos, however, was considered fair game for invasion and take-over.
Kingdom by Kingdom, they fell to Chaos's armies until at last Chaos came face to face and toe to toe with Cosmos herself. The Goddess, hoping to spare her people, sacrificed herself and allowed Chaos to destroy her. Chaos took Cornelia for his own, making it the new Capital of his empire. Chaos was contented by this, but only for a short while. His lust for power and mastery over all things unquenchable, he has once more set out to conquer the last free kingdoms as well as expand his empire across the sea, leaving ten of his best generals behind to rule his empire from Cornelia. Known simply as the Ten, they strive to further Chaos's goals... as well as their own.
Many in the Empire, and in the city of Cornelia, have quietly allowed Chaos's rule, choosing not to fight in order to stay alive and unharmed. However, the seeds of rebellion are always sown under tyranny, and rumors of rebellion are starting to spread across the kingdoms. Cornelia, once having been the seat of Cosmos's power, is the epicenter for these rebels and is the place they most long to liberate first, even with the great possibility of death. Many there still revere Cosmos as their Goddess-Queen, even though they believe her permanently slain.
Now that the dark god Chaos has left Cornelia for further conquest, they seek to actively move and dethrone the Ten, hoping to crush Chaos's power base while his back is turned. Cosmos may be gone, but she is certainly not forgotten.
Let the battle for freedom begin...
